A Week of Good Progress
Scott has had another good week. He is still doing fine off of the ventilator, and the equipment has been taken out of his room. He is breathing really well, and has had no problems at all getting used to doing all of the work himself.
A large amount of babies that spend long periods of time on a ventilator often have a lot of trouble taking food orally, as they generally do not want anything near their mouths. Scott, however, is quite happy to suck on his soother all day long. Since he does not have an oral aversion, he was given a try at breastfeeding, and did very well. Due to the amount of energy it takes, he will be start out slowly (once or twice a day), and work his way up to getting most of his feeds orally.
