More Surgery

Another rollercoaster ride this week. On Tuesday they did another scan of Scott’s wee head, and said that the fluid build-up in his brain was getting worse. The brain constantly produces fluid that flows through the ventricals of the brain, and down the spinal column. Due to the bleeding in his brain that happened early [...]

A Happy Easter

The Easter Bunny made an appearance in the nursery this morning, but had slipped away before we got there. Although Scott is a little too small to be into the chocolate, he has vivid dreams about Cadbury Cream Eggs. Today is Scott’s first day without any medication pumps. His central line has been capped, and [...]

Getting Back On Track

Scott has almost fully recovered from his eye surgery. Waiting for an operating room meant he missed out on over 30 hours of feeds, and it took a couple of days to get him back to his “pre-surgery” milk intake. He is now opening his eyes, but they still look a little swollen and sore. [...]

Laser Eye Surgery

It’s been a long few days. Over the weekend, Scott had increased difficulty breathing when some milk got into his lungs. Having the milk in his lungs greatly increases his risk of getting an infection. He was watched very closely, given antibiotics again, and had a few x-rays taken. He is breathing better now, and [...]

Bouncing Up and Down

Scott has had a good week all around, and as I write this update, is almost exactly 8 weeks old. He was weighed at 1395 grams today, and has lost almost all of the “water weight” picked up in the last few weeks. He is looking better every day, and comes out of his incubator [...]

Cuddles with Mom

Today was a really good day for Scott. For the first time in over a month, he got to go on a field trip outside of the incubator. Between incubator changes, Scott was able to cuddle with Mom. He stayed there, completely happy and calm for almost three hours, before getting back into a new [...]

Scott’s Weight Loss Program

Yesterday morning, the doctors decided to stop the paralysis medication all together. Scott has surpassed 4 pounds, and was getting too puffy for his own good. After his last dose, it took his about 4 hours to wake up and start moving his hands and feet. After 10-12 hours he was fully awake, looking around [...]

Puff Baby

Scott is breathing well, but is still being paralyzed to prevent him from fighting his ventilator. The drug that keeps him paralyzed also causes him to retain water. The poor little guy looks like a sumo wrestler, and weighs almost 4 pounds (1600 grams). The doctors gave him a chance to go off of the [...]

Ups and Downs

I meant to send an update earlier but we had a long couple of days (again). Last week was a bit of a challenge from a respiratory point of view. Scott’s oxygen needs got really high, and they needed to keep him paralysed in order to ventilate him. After a series of x-Rays, they decided [...]

A Little Progress

I have no idea how a month has passed, but apparently it has. Scott is progressing well. The doctors have kept him paralyzed for the last few days, as he continues to fight his respirator. He is stubborn. I don’t know where he got that from. His blood pressure has been much better lately, indicating [...]
